The Avenue

At the Avenue Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School, we aim to provide our children with an exciting, inspirational and creative learning experience within a safe, stable and nurturing environment.   Self confidence and self esteem are crucial to the well being of every child and these are encouraged and nourished from the very start. Happiness is the cornerstone of  successful learning and we achieve this through providing exciting activities in which children are able to succeed, supported by a committed, listening and experienced staff.

The Avenue was founded over 45 years ago in Highgate, North London, and is a co-educational Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School with students from the age of rising 3 to 7. We are an independent, small, friendly school with a passion for arts and music. The school is located close to Highgate Village, with very convenient transport links via bus and underground.  The school is sited in a pleasant area of Highgate and possesses a large leafy garden where children enjoy many outdoor activities. The new Nursery wing was completed in 2021 and provides a safe and spacious all day environment for our Nursery children.

The Avenue is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. The School will also carry out an online search of all shortlisted candidates as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.

  • We are an equal opportunities employer and this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

  • You will be required to provide proof of your identity, right to work in the UK and qualifications during the selection process. We will seek references on short-listed candidates that will include questions about past disciplinary actions or allegations in relation to behaviour with children and may approach previous employers for information to verify particular experience or qualifications before interview.
