Specialist in the Kodaly Method visits the Avenue
We were very privileged to have Lucinda Geoghegan visit us from the 12th - 14th June, 2019. Lucinda is the Education Director for the National Youth Choir of Scotland and specialises in Early Years Music Education. She also lectures at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and what makes her visit so special for us is that she is also a regular tutor for the British Kodaly Association. She has run workshops in Hungary, Ireland, Germany, Holland and Singapore.
Lucinda spent each day she was with us, engaging staff and children in bringing singing and rhythm into the curriculum through songs and many exciting games and chants. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience as did we! The Staff Inset on Wednesday after school was hugely appreciated by all the staff and we learnt a great deal. Understanding the importance of music in the curriculum - how it aids reading in particular - was something we were all aware of but having Lucinda with us confirmed our belief in music as a foundation for EYFS learning.
